Bespoke Door Canopies

    Important information

Please take a little time to read this information, before you order.

  •  I will ask for a deposit when you order, the outstanding balance is then due on completion, but before delivery. Typical lead/build times from order are around 6 to 8 weeks, but can vary due to the work I have on at the time. I work for myself and will always endeavour to complete your project as soon as possible. Once you have placed an order, if you wish to change any of the design details or even cancel the order, please let me know as soon as possible.

  • All my bespoke, made to measure timber door canopies and door surrounds come on a -supply only- basis, for you to then fit and finish. They are all made from softwood and come without tiles, slates or lead sheet, unless specified when you order. All woodwork will come in a coat of white primer, unless otherwise specified. Once fitted, please use exterior quality products to finish. Please remember, wood is a natural material, has knots and will dry out over time. It will need ongoing inspection and refinishing, as required.

  • Please be as accurate as possible when measuring critical dimensions, such as door widths, heights and depths etc, as mistakes can be difficult to put right after construction! However, I will always ask you to confirm the details and measurements in a design drawing, before starting work on your order. If there is any doubt, I will always double check with you. I will always be as accurate as possible, but please remember all my projects are handmade, not mass produced by machines.

  • Please state before ordering if time is critical. If you require a specific completion/delivery date please say, as delays can occur during the design, build and delivery phases. Also, please remember all my door canopy kits are aimed at the competent DIY or self build person, importantly you must have fitting, fixing and finishing skills.

  • Delivery/P&P costs (which will also include a charge for protective packing materials, if needed) are additional to the basic cost of the canopy kits. Your options are, to either arrange collection from me in Leeds yourself or have delivery arranged at cost. For small, one piece door canopies or gallows brackets, I usually post via Parcelforce 48 in the UK. To provide a quote on delivery/P&P costs, I'd need at least a UK postcode, thanks.

  • My flat lead covered canopies are fitted with a one piece, code 4 thickness lead sheet, dressed/folded to fit the canopy top, up to a max projection of 15 inches (400mm) and a max width of 67 inches (1.7 metres).
  • I don't recommend fixing the edges of the lead sheet with nails, as the lead sheet needs freedom to expand and contract. So I normally supply folding copper strips to hold down edges/corners, as needed. Also when the canopy is fitted, you must ensure the lead sheet-to-wall joint is effectively weatherproofed. Use either an exterior quality lead silicone sealant, cover the lead upstand in flashing or set the lead sheet into a brickwork joint and seal. For canopies needing larger areas of lead sheet, wood core rolls, lead welding or a different thickness of lead sheet, I would always recommend you speak with a specialist leadwork company who could give you advice on covering your door canopy on site.

  • I can provide customer references from past work if requested and I do have insurance cover. But if you have any questions, or are unhappy with the work I've done for you please say, even after you have fitted and finished your canopy. Last but not least, you may need planning permission for your new door surround or door canopy. If you are in any doubt, I recommend you check before ordering. This can be done by speaking with your local building control officer or planning officer, who can advise.  You can find your local planning office contact details in your local telephone directory or via a internet search. But if you have any questions, let me know and I'll help if I can.

           Thanks
